Website Showcases Jeweler’s Custom Designs & Collections Developed Over Distinguished 30 Year Career  --  March 16, 2006

Albany, NY – Drue Sanders, a Capital Region artist and jeweler who has spent over 30 years designing custom jewelry for enthusiasts worldwide, has just launched the newly redesigned website for her business, Drue Sanders Custom Jewelers at www.DrueSanders.com.

Drue Sanders’ custom jewelry designs have long been in demand since she first relocated to the area. Notable clients include New York State Governors Hugh Carey and George Pataki, the State University of New York, the City of Albany, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), and the Culinary Arts Institute (CIA).

In 1979, Ms. Sanders was commissioned by then Governor Hugh Carey to design the New York State Music Award. The award consisted of a musical staff in brass with the first 5 notes of the “I Love New York” theme song in sterling silver, set with a garnet, the official gemstone of New York State. The award has been given to such notable musicians as Leonard Bernstein and Harry Chapin, among others.

In 1998, Ms. Sanders created a unique desktop sculpture honoring the opening of the new Albany International Airport. The design featured the architectural details from the new terminal and was presented to Governor George Pataki and the Federal Secretary of Transportation, among other officials. Ms. Sanders also designed the President’s Medal for the State University of New York in 2000.

The City of Albany has also enjoyed Drue Sanders’ custom designs created to celebrate the city’s special events and milestones, including the creation of a limited edition Albany Collection of jewelry commemorating the city’s Tricentennial in 1988.

In 1990, Drue designed the Tulip Queen crown and donated it to the city of Albany. In addition, the Albany Tulip Queen and her court each year receive the gift of a specially designed Albany Tulip Festival pin. The outgoing queen also passes on to the new queen the crown of sterling silver featuring 14k yellow gold tulips and garnet accents.

Ms. Sanders has also long supported area charitable and human service organizations, including Catholic Charities, Ronald McDonald Charities, and Living Resources by designing special pins designed to raise money for the organizations’ annual charity events.

Over the years, Ms. Sanders’ talent, hard work, and business and civic achievements have been lauded by both business organizations and state government leaders. In 1993, she was recognized as an Enterprising Businesswoman by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce. Most recently, Drue Sanders was honored by Governor George Pataki and received the Governor’s 2005 Award for Excellence as the top working woman artist in New York State.

Drue Sanders holds a B.A. in Studio Art, an M.A. in Jewelry Design and Metal Sculpture, and is a Graduate Gemologist certified by The Gemological Institute of America. Her custom designs can be found at www.DrueSanders.com. Drue Sanders Custom Jewelers also provides jewelry consulting, repair, appraisal and replacement services.
